Norman Invasion

I’ve written a song about the Norman invasion.  It actually uses the same music as my song about a lionfish invasion that I wrote a few years ago!  It tells the story of the Norman invasion and I checked it with a history teacher and it is pretty accurate although there is still some debate whether Harold Godwinson was really killed with an arrow to his eye.  We had a house music competition at school and we have four houses – Romans, Vikings, Saxons and Normans.  We found some great songs for the other three houses but couldn’t find anything for the Normans so we spent a bit of time recording it.  I wasn’t on the judging panel but this song won.  The kids really enjoyed singing to this quirky, yet educational song.

Find enclosed the lyrics and music.  The sheet music is attached but of course I have changed the words from fish to Normans!

INVADER DANGER

Over the English Channel is a land called Normandy
You can read about us in a book or on the Bayeux tapestry
In 1066 we got in ships to sail across the sea
The lovely town of Hastings is the place we need to be

Invader Danger!
Normans cross the sea
Invader Danger!
Unexpectedly
Invader Danger!
We’re coming to grab your land
We are the mighty Normans
So you’d better understand

Harold came from Stamford Bridge with his army of Saxon men
They’d beaten the vicious Vikings but they’d have to do it again
They climbed up a hill and waited for us to march and meet us there
But we are clever Normans so you’d better be aware!

Invader Danger!
Normans cross the sea
Invader Danger!
Unexpectedly
Invader Danger!
We’re coming to grab your land
We are the mighty Normans
 So you’d better understand

The battle lasted for a day which was extremely long
We had the greatest archers but the Saxons were very strong
We thought that we were losing but an arrow hit Harold’s eye
The Normans are the winners and this is our battle cry

Invader Danger!
Normans cross the sea
Invader Danger!
Unexpectedly
Invader Danger!
We’re coming to grab your land
We are the mighty Normans
So you’d better understand

Invader Danger!
Normans cross the sea
Invader Danger!
Unexpectedly
Invader Danger!
We’re coming to grab your land
We are the mighty Normans
So you’d better understand

Invader-Danger
