Many years ago I wrote a song about Guy Fawkes. I entered the UK Songwriting contest and was a finalist with this song in the “Miscellaneous” section.
And now for this year we have the score!
Happy Bonfire Night!
GUNPOWDER PLOT LYRICS
Remember, remember the 5th November
Gunpowder, treason and plot
Guy Fawkes was a man who hated the King
He hatched an evil plan, destruction to bring
He wanted to bomb the Houses of Parliament
With him he brought his deadly armament
Gunpowder to blow it all up
Remember, remember the 5th November
Gunpowder, treason and plot
Guy Fawkes laughed out loud
“Ha! Ha! You’d better get out of town
This place it will be no more
Cos I’m gonna smash it down”
Just then security caught him at his own game
Guy Fawkes had had his moment of wonder fame
And now he was to be all hung up
Remember, remember the 5th November
Gunpowder, treason and plot
Guy Fawkes plan had failed
The King pronounced him dead
He was hung, drawn and quartered
As the history books have said
So we all light bonfires to retell this story
The reason for the season is that treason brings no glory
So burn you bonfires burn. Fire them up!
